Manufacturing Operations Manager

Our client a Specialist Energy Services company based in the Cavan area are seeking to hire an experienced Operations Manager.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who will spend significant time interacting directly with the manufacturing floor to drive the required culture and execute on a daily basis, while also engaging effectively with commercial peers on the leadership team. The role is also accountable for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), OTD, overtime and safety while promoting and implementing the Lean culture throughout production and maintaining or exceeding target manufacturing profit.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position is strategic growth manager and will report directly to the Company Directors. Partnering with the leadership team, the Operations Manager / Director will be expected to grow and steer an organization which enables growth in targeted segments and continually improves the ability to serve customers.

  • Implement a lean/continuous improvement culture/mindset that drives out waste while improving Safety, Quality & Delivery
  • Oversee management of value improvement engineering function to achieve cost/productivity/yield, quality, and cycle time reduction goal
  • Performs other duties which may be assigned by the Directors
  • Promote and maintain good labour relations while developing problem-solving skills and a culture of cooperation and open communication
  • Design and implement improvements to quality of work and maintain materials management systems
  • Drive continued progress regarding quality and safety
  • Drive the prevention of safety relate injuries; implement training, near miss metrics and countermeasures, and root cause analysis with action plans to attain a culture which demands a safe workplace
  • Ensure the highest possible quality of the product by establishing and adhering to approved standards of testing and benchmarking throughout the production process
  • Ensure work instructions are current and followed consistently
  • Promote and ensure the highest safety standards
  • Demonstrate a high personal commitment to executing a high On-Time Delivery. Engage with the commercial teams to understand client service needs and enable differentiated offerings to create value for our customers
  • Develop workforce requirements and set priorities for production schedules based on new product introductions, integrations and acquisitions, equipment requirements and efficiencies
  • Manage the Materials Management & Production Control Departments
  • Meet targets while attaining an ever-improving on-time delivery goal
  • Advances strategic and tactical plans/goals in pursuit of growth and profit objectives
  • Attain annual margin target improvement plan through management of material costs, direct labor, and indirect costs
  • Creates proposals for capital expenditures and make budget recommendations for the manufacturing operation.
  • Cultivate a strategy for manufacturing
  • Determines capital and expense requirements to maintain manufacturing objectives and provide a return on investment; prepare annual Capital and Expense Budget appropriation requests for all machinery, equipment, etc...
  • Develops and manages the departmental budget
  • Helps to prioritize new product opportunities
  • Provide leadership on corporate objectives, most notably global sourcing, new product introduction, inventory turns, e-business, budgeting, and organization assessment
  • Work with team and other stakeholders on process improvements, plant layout improvements, optimization of machinery and automated or outsourcing improvements
  • Works with process owners to ensure that the KPIs are collected to monitor progress
  • Qualifications:
  • Background preferably in a manufacturing environment 
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, preferably Green Belt status, Black Belt a plus
  • Methodical understanding of production processes and scheduling concepts
  • Meticulous understanding and prior use of Lean, ISO 9001 and 14000
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree and 10-15 years of related experience
  • Action-oriented, drive for results, customer focused
  • Motivational skills/good people skills ideally demonstrated within past leadership role/current role
  • Robust product knowledge, along with strong organizational skills
  • Team builder, strong communication skills, problem solver
  • Understanding of Lean philosophies and also Six Sigma
